Towering waterfalls, picturesque lakes, alpine villages, and some of the tallest mountains in Europe. The Swiss Bernese Oberland has it all for outdoor lovers, and this 6-day trip is the perfect itinerary to explore the area. From Zurich, you’ll hike and kayak the twin lakes of Interlaken, explore the breathtaking valley of Lauterbrunnen, and travel via the world-famous Grindelwald to the Jungfraujoch. Welcome to Switzerland! Take the group transfer in or the short train ride on your own to the hotel in Zurich, freshen up, then meet your group for the welcome dinner.

Meet the group! You will have your first opportunity to taste some of the typical Swiss cuisines during a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Perhaps try a traditional fondue. It will be a set menu, it will include a starter, main and a dessert, beverages are not included.

In the afternoon join your Guide for a hike in the region, enjoying the breathtaking views of Lake Brienz and Lake. From your hotel using a public transfer arrive to the starting point of this great circular hike above Interlaken with breathtaking view of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. You should also pack your reusable water bottles, ask your tour leader on the weather and dress in layers, remember to wear comfortable hiking shoes, you will walk mainly on gravel road. Head into the mountains as you take the train to explore a quintessential Swiss village straight out of a fairytale, Lauterbrunnen. Hiking in the valley will get you multiple vantage points of the incredible scenery, as well as the 72 waterfalls that tumble down from the towering alps.

Train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen

Enjoy this scenic train ride from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen. The train will take you through the picturesque landscapes of the Bernese Oberland region.

Hiking in Lauterbrunnen Valley with Trümmelbach Falls

5 Hours

Hike through Switzerland’s most iconic valley, home to 72 waterfalls, some as tall as 1300 feet. This circular hike starts in Lauterbrunnen and will let you experience the spectacular valley and the beautiful Trümmelbach Falls. The stone steps inside the mountain can be quite slick, so wear shoes with a good grip. You should also pack your reusable water bottles, and a rain jacket to protect you from the waterfall spray. Temperatures near the waterfall can be very cool even during mid Summer. Distance: 5.1 miles / Elevation: 1,177ft / Difficulty: Moderate / Duration: 3hrs 30mins to 5hrs

It's another full day in the mountains today, as you tackle one of the world's great trips to the UNESCO Jungfraujoch. The "Top of Europe" and home to Europe's biggest glaciers, it's a must-do on any adventurer's Swiss trip. After soaking in the views of the glaciers up top you'll head down a short way to hike the famous Eiger Trail, then continue for a quick stop in the postcard town of Grindelwald before heading back to Interlaken. It's important to note that the weather at Jungfraujoch can be unpredictable, so be prepared for varying conditions, including colder temperatures and high-altitude sun exposure.

Train to Jungfraujoch

From Interlaken, we will take a train to Lauterbrunnen and a cogwheel railways will take you to Kleine Scheidegg, a high-altitude pass with stunning views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains once there you'll board the Jungfrau Railway, that takes you up to the Jungfraujoch. This part of the journey is particularly breathtaking as you ascend into the high mountains. The train passes through a tunnel inside the Eiger mountain and stops at the Jungfraujoch station. Please remember to bring extra layers of clothing with you and to wear good hiking/waterproof shoes. Total journey approx. 2.30 hours

Journey to Jungfraujoch

Explore the Top of Europe, Jungfraujoch. As icy air sweeps over your face, snow crunches under your feet, and the panorama take your breath away, you'll know you have arrived at one of the best places in Switzerland and all of Europe. You will have plenty of time to explore the area. The Sphinx Observation deck is a highlight, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Alpine landscape. You can also visit the Ice Palace, which is a tunnel system through the glacier and also you can decide to grab a warm drink and eat something to the many cafes and restaurant at Jungfrauj.

Train to Eigergletscher

Join your group and tour leader and board a train in Jungfrau Railway, which will take you through a tunnel inside the Eiger mountain and bring you to the Eigerwand station.

Hike the Eiger Trail

3 Hours

Today's trail traverses underneath the famous (and notorious) north face of the Eiger. Unlike the rock face, the trail is safe for casual hikers and allows for mostly easy walking, with a few switchbacks and rocky sections to navigate. Enjoy fantastic views of the Grindelwald valley and surrounding peaks. Distance: 3.7 miles (one way) / Elevation 2,511ft (down) / Difficulty: Moderate / Duration: 3hrs

Continue your journey back to Interlaken with a train from Grindelwald. During your journey, you'll have the opportunity to see stunning vistas, including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. The train will pass through lovely valleys and charming Swiss villages. Travel time 1pprox 1 hour.

It's your last morning in Interlaken, so make the most of it! Explore the surrounding area or join in for an optional kayak on Lake Brienz. In the afternoon you'll take the train back to Zurich. After freshening up, head out on the town and enjoy a farewell dinner with your group to toast the epic mountain memories from your week in Switzerland.

In the evening, get together to explore the food scene in Zurich on your farewell dinner – perhaps try raclette or Zürcher Eintopf (Hot-pot Zürich style). Dinner tonight is a set menu, appetizer, main entree and dessert. Alcoholic drinks are not included.

Discover the beauty of Lake Brienz from a breathtaking perspective. In the midst of a fantastic mountain panorama, you will experience the feeling of gliding in a kayak through this turquoise lake. What does "or similar" mean next to the accommodations?

When we say “or similar,” it means the hotel listed is an example of what you can expect—not always the exact spot you'll be staying. Sometimes Operators adjust accommodations due to seasonal availability or group size. But rest assured: the quality and comfort will match what's shown.

Why would the accommodations change from time of booking?

Flexibility allows Operators to choose the best-fit accommodations closer to your trip—based on availability, logistics, and what works best for the group (like the number of Travelers and room configurations). This ensures a smooth experience without sacrificing comfort or quality.

Finalized hotel info is typically shared about 30 days before departure in your Traveler Portal, along with your final itinerary.

Who actually runs my trip, and how does Trova keep things safe?

Your trip is operated by licensed, certified Tour Operators who manage all trip logistics and safety—from accommodations and local Guides and day-to-day logistics. All trips comply with local legal and regulatory standards. We vet each Operating partner carefully so you can travel with confidence.

General Travel Questions

Do I need any documentation to travel?

It depends on where you're headed. Though it is not a universal requirement, many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. This ensures Travelers have sufficient time to return home even if their visas are extended or if unexpected circumstances arise. 

Some destinations may also require a visa. Check our visa page to consult your country's travel resources.

Do I need any vaccines?

It's always best to check with your healthcare provider or a travel doctor before your trip. You can also visit the CDC website (or your local government's travel health resource) for destination-specific vaccine guidance. Health and safety first!

Are flights included in the trip cost?

Because our Hosts and Travelers are coming from all around the world, flights to and from your destination are not included. Some trips include internal flights (like a short domestic hop), and those details will always be listed on the trip page if applicable.

Can you accommodate my dietary needs?

We’ll do our very best! Our Operators aim to accommodate dietary restrictions, though availability varies by destination. For example, some places offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, while others might be quite limited. The earlier you let us know—through your trip form or by contacting our support team—the better we can prepare. Once you arrive, be sure to remind your local Guide about any allergies or restrictions so they can help you enjoy your meals safely and comfortably.
