About This Trip

Hallo & Servus! 😊 Let’s delve into the magical atmosphere of Christmastime in Germany & the Czech Republic this year! On this 8-day trip, we’ll be able to enjoy lots of German Glühwein (mulled wine), hot chocolate, roasted almonds, Bratwurst, and countless other delicacies while exploring some of the most beautiful places together. We’ll start in Germany’s bustling capital, Berlin, before we take the train to the enchanting East German city of Dresden, where we’ll visit the oldest Christmas market in all of Germany, the Striezelmarkt, try some of their famous Dresdner Stollen, and visit the majestic Zwinger Palace. On our way over to the Czech Republic, we’ll stop at the village of Seiffen, which is traditionally known for toy manufacturing and Christmas decorations, such as the wooden pyramids and Schwibbögen. The evening will be spent in the picturesque Czech spa city of Karlovy Vary, where we can relax in the thermal baths before we head to Prague the next day – one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe! Welcome! Please be prepared to meet in the lobby at 5:30 pm to depart for our welcome dinner. The dinner reservation time will be finalized closer to the trip date. If you plan on arriving today, we recommend flying into Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).

Day 2

Berlin Walk & Christmas Markets

After breakfast, we will visit the buzzing Christmas markets of Berlin. On our walk to the market, our tour leader will give us a proper introduction to Berlin on our orientation walk. Once we arrive at the market, we’ll be able to enjoy the smells and tastes of German delicacies and mulled wine. After we explore a second Christmas Market in an outer borough of Berlin, we’ll have a free afternoon to explore all of the attractions the city has to offer at our own pace. You will be provided with a daily public transportation ticket for you to use to get around the city. It is December in Germany, so please dress warm and bring a hat, gloves, and a warm jacket.

Berlin Orientation walk

1 Hour

On our way to the Christmas Market, our tour leader will give us a quick introduction to Berlin. Berlin is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city that offers something for everyone. Whether you are interested in history, culture, art, nightlife, or nature, you will find it in Berlin. You can explore the iconic landmarks, such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall, or discover hidden gems, such as the urban gardens and the street art. Berlin is a city that celebrates diversity and creativity. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk up to 3 miles on paved streets.

Christmas Markets Visit

2 Hours

Our tour leader will take us on a journey to explore two of Berlin's Christmas markets. We’ll visit the elegant Christmas Market at Gendarmenmarkt. Afterward, we’ll take public transportation to a more traditional market in the Spandau neighborhood.

Day 3

Train to Dresden & Christmas Markets

This morning take a direct train from Berlin to Dresden, a city with one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe. After checking into the hotel join your tour leader for an orientation walk of the city and you can optionally explore the Semperoper opera house and the Church of Our Lady or Brühl's Terrace and the Royal Palace, the Elbe Castles on the Loschwitz hillside and maybe even exclusive villas of the Blasewitz borough. In the afternoon enjoy the Christmas market with the group. Depending on the timing of the day, you will either have lunch on your own on the train or when you arrive in Dresden.

Train to Dresden

2 Hours

From our Berlin hotel, we will head to the train station. In case the hotel is more than a 15-minute walk, a private transfer will be provided. A 2-hour train ride will take us to the beautiful city of Dresden. Your ticket is included. There are bathrooms and a snack cart on board. After arriving in Dresden, we will head to our new accommodation.

Dresden Orientation Walk

1 Hour

We will walk 10 minutes to the tram station and take a 15-minute tram ride to the historic center to begin our tour. Dresden is a city famous for its rich cultural and historical heritage, including majestic palaces, royal buildings, gardens, music venues, and more. Our tour leader will give us an orientation walk through the city, passing landmarks such as the Semperoper Opera House, the Church of Our Lady, Brühl's Terrace, and the Royal Palace. We will have time to return and explore these sights on our free afternoon tomorrow. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and expect to walk up to 2 miles on cobblestone streets and alleys.

Dresden Christmas Markets

Dresden is known as the Christmas capital of Europe! Not only does it host Germany’s oldest Christmas Market (Striezelmarkt) but it’s also home to the famous Dresdner Christ Stollen, which is a delicious sweet bread filled with spices, dried fruits, and raisins and covered in powdered sugar. At the Christmas markets, you can find traditional crafts, delicious treats, and sparkling lights in every corner of the city. Whether you want to admire the world's largest nutcracker, enjoy a mug of mulled wine, try some Stollen, or listen to live music, there is something for everyone at the Dresden Christmas markets! Together with our tour leader, we will visit the Striezelmarkt, which has been around since 1434. Afterward, we’ll stroll along the "Christmas mile" that stretches through the historic center of the city. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and expect to walk up to 2 miles on cobblestone streets.

Zwinger Palace & Gardens

After breakfast, we will take the tram to visit the Zwinger, a famous complex of beautiful buildings and gardens from the 18th century that will enchant you. Then, the afternoon is free to explore the city. Find a café for lunch or spend more time shopping in the markets.

Zwinger Palace

From our hotel, we will walk 10 minutes to the tram station and take a 15-minute ride to Zwinger Palace, the perfect image of Dresden. Zwinger Palace is a magnificent baroque complex that was built in the 18th century as a venue for royal festivities. It houses several museums, such as the Old Masters Gallery, the Porcelain Collection, and the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments. You can admire the stunning architecture, the exquisite works of art, and the fascinating exhibits that showcase the cultural heritage of the region of Saxony. Toy Town to Thermal Baths

This morning, our private transfer will pick us up from the hotel and take us to the beautiful, picturesque town of Seiffen, where we will have free time to walk around and have drinks with the group. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Karlovy Vary and visit the Christmas market there. In the evening, we have the option to visit one of the most famous European thermal baths! Make sure to book this as an optional activity if you want to come along. Alternatively, you can enjoy the rest of the night at your leisure.

Stop for a visit in Seiffen. This charming village in the heart of the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) is known for its wooden toy industry, and the historic center is filled with enchanting shops and workshops to discover – perfect for a Christmastime visit! Seiffen has been making toys since the 17th century, when former miners turned to wood carving as a way to survive. During this stop, we will also have time to grab some lunch before we continue our trip across the border to the Czech Republic.

Transfer to Karlovy Vary

We’re taking a private transfer to the town of Karlovy Vary. Stops for bathrooms/snacks will be made as needed.

Karlovy Vary Orientation Walk

Karlovy Vary is a beautiful spa town set in a stunning location. It has long been a choice destination for Europe's most influential people. Over the centuries, people like Napoleon Bonaparte, Peter the Great, Emperor Franz Josef I, Goethe, Beethoven, and Freud have stayed in the well-known spa town. Our tour leader will take us on a short orientation walk along the river to admire the elegant architecture and visit the town’s main Christmas market. Due to the small size of the town, we will be walking through Karlovy Vary, so please wear comfortable walking shoes.

Thermal Baths Entrance Ticket (optional)

From our hotel, we will walk about 20 minutes to the famous thermal baths of Karlovy Vary. Spend some time unwinding in the sauna and soaking in the warm waters. Please be sure to pack your bathing suit, a towel, sandals, and a change of clothes for after.

Welcome to Prague: Market Magic & Leisure

After breakfast, our private bus will take us to Prague – one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe! After we check in, we will have some free time for lunch on our own before meeting up with the group to explore the city. With our tour leader, we will visit the best Czech Christmas market and enjoy its delicacies. The rest of the day is yours to explore as you please.

Prague Orientation Walk

Prague is a wonderful city that has a lot to offer, and especially during Christmas time, it is buzzing with life. On our orientation walk, we will explore the old town and pass the Astronomical Clock, one of the oldest working clocks in the world, and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, a Gothic masterpiece. We’ll head onwards to Wenceslas Square and learn about Czechia's more recent history from the 20th century, as the square has been the scene of many demonstrations, celebrations, and protests throughout history. We will end the tour with a stop on the Charles Bridge, the iconic landmark that connects the Old Town and the Lesser Town. Please wear comfortable walking shoes as we will be walking approximately 2.5- 3 miles on cobblestone roads and alleys. Prague Christmas Markets

The streets of Prague are decorated with lights and ornaments, the markets are filled with festive goods and treats, and the atmosphere is cheerful and cozy. We’ll have the chance to admire the beautiful architecture of the Old Town Square, where a giant Christmas tree stands every year. Once we are done at the market, you can stay and explore more of the city or walk 15-20 minutes back to the hotel.

Day 7

Castles, Culture & Farewell Feast

Today we have a free day to explore Prague! A city rich in history, you can visit the Prague Castle, the Museum of Communism, or explore the Jewish Quarter and Old Town. You can visit one of the many art galleries the city is famous for or, If you are feeling more adventurous, you can head out to Petrin Hill and take the funicular for views over the city. In the afternoon, you have the option of joining a brewery tour with a tasting after. Ben and I won’t be participating in that tour, but you guys are more than welcome to! In the evening, we will have one last amazing night together at our farewell dinner in a medieval Czech restaurant.

Pilsner Brewery Tour (optional)

For the beer lover, take a self-guided tour of the Pilsener brewery. You will walk 5 minutes to the tram station and take a 10 minute tram ride to the brewery. On this audio tour you will learn about the brewing process and different techniques that they've been using for over 180 years. Your tour concludes in the tap with with 2 beer tastings.

What's included in the trip cost?

Most trips include accommodations, daily activities, ground transportation, some meals, and a dedicated local Guide. Because Travelers are coming from all around the world, flights to and from your destination are not included. Each trip page breaks it all down for you.

Will I have free time?

Yes! While we pack in incredible experiences, most itineraries include built-in free time so you can relax, wander, or check out personal must-sees.

What do the activity levels mean?

Every trip has a physical Activity Level from 1 to 5 so you can find the right fit for your travel style:

  • Level 1 – Relax + Unwind: Minimal movement (spa days, beach lounging, local markets)
  • Level 2 – Low-Key Movement: Light, easy-paced activity (snorkeling, boat tours, gentle hikes)
  • Level 3 – Moderate Activity: Ready to move (multi-day hikes, skiing, camping)
  • Level 4 – Get Your Heart Rate Up: More intense movement (long hikes, biking, active days)
  • Level 5 – Extreme Adventure: High-adrenaline travel (challenging hikes, dives, technical climbs – experience may be required)

Accommodations

What does "or similar" mean next to the accommodations?

When we say “or similar,” it means the hotel listed is an example of what you can expect—not always the exact spot you'll be staying. Sometimes Operators adjust accommodations due to seasonal availability or group size. But rest assured: the quality and comfort will match what's shown.

Why would the accommodations change from time of booking?

Flexibility allows Operators to choose the best-fit accommodations closer to your trip—based on availability, logistics, and what works best for the group (like the number of Travelers and room configurations). This ensures a smooth experience without sacrificing comfort or quality.

Finalized hotel info is typically shared about 30 days before departure in your Traveler Portal, along with your final itinerary.

Who actually runs my trip, and how does Trova keep things safe?

Your trip is operated by licensed, certified Tour Operators who manage all trip logistics and safety—from accommodations and local Guides and day-to-day logistics. All trips comply with local legal and regulatory standards. We vet each Operating partner carefully so you can travel with confidence.

General Travel Questions

Do I need any documentation to travel?

It depends on where you're headed. Though it is not a universal requirement, many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. This ensures Travelers have sufficient time to return home even if their visas are extended or if unexpected circumstances arise.

Do I need any vaccines?

It's always best to check with your healthcare provider or a travel doctor before your trip. You can also visit the CDC website (or your local government's travel health resource) for destination-specific vaccine guidance. Health and safety first!

Are flights included in the trip cost?

Because our Hosts and Travelers are coming from all around the world, flights to and from your destination are not included. Some trips include internal flights (like a short domestic hop), and those details will always be listed on the trip page if applicable.

Can you accommodate my dietary needs?

We’ll do our very best! Our Operators aim to accommodate dietary restrictions, though availability varies by destination. For example, some places offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, while others might be quite limited. The earlier you let us know—through your trip form or by contacting our support team—the better we can prepare. Once you arrive, be sure to remind your local Guide about any allergies or restrictions so they can help you enjoy your meals safely and comfortably.
