Welcome! Please be prepared to meet in the lobby at 5:30 pm to depart for your welcome dinner. The dinner reservation time will be finalized closer to your trip date. If you plan on arriving today, we recommend flying into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO).

Info

After breakfast you will bid farewell to the big city! You’ll begin your transfer to Dominical with a stop at Cachi to loosen up your stiff muscles with some rock climbing! Then continue your transfer and make another stop along the way for lunch. Finally you’ll finish the last leg of your transfer and arrive into Dominical in the evening. Then you’ll have the evening free to relax and get dinner on your own. Today you’ll want to wear athletic clothing and athletic shoes or sneakers. The road to Dominical will be mountainous therefore it is recommended to bring car sickness medication if needed.

Transfer to Cachi

1 Hour 30 Mins

Take a private transfer to Cachi to go rock climbing!

Rock Climbing

3 Hours

Tackle a 100% natural stone wall, with a wide variety of routes and difficulty degrees including beginner, intermediate, and professional levels. Its height goes from 11 meters to 60 meters. You can climb all throughout the year because even if it rains, the wall never gets wet. Prior experience is NOT required for this activity. You will be provided with harnesses, helmets, and gloves. Please note this activity has a maximum weight of 195 lbs.

Transfer to Dominical

4 Hours

Continue your transfer to Dominical. You will stop to have lunch during your transfer to Dominical. Other stops for bathrooms/snacks will be made along the way as needed.

Day 3

Info

Today after breakfast you’ll head to Punta Uvita to begin your snorkel tour. You’ll board a boat to explore and snorkel the reefs of Ballena Island, then head back to land with the rest of the day at your leisure. Today you’ll want to wear your swimsuit and bring a towel and sunscreen.

Snorkeling Tour at Ballena Marine Park

3 Hours

Take a 30 minute transfer to Punta Uvita where you will depart on a public boat for your snorkeling experience. The Marino Ballena National Park is one of the best places along the South Pacific Coast of Costa Rica with great coral reefs and incredible fish diversity. On the Snorkeling Tour, you will visit the great snorkeling treasures of the Marino Ballena National Park: reefs of Ballena Island, Tres Hermanas Islets and the Punta Uvita or Whale's tail. During the snorkeling you can find parrotfish, butterflyfish, blue surgeonfish, and a great number of starfish at a depth that ranges from 1 to 3 meters. The naturalist guide will spend an hour at each reef searching for and directing you toward the marine life, and then provide an explanation of what was seen when you are back on the boat. Then return to land and head back to the hotel. You will be provided with life jackets, a mask and snorkel, and flippers.

Day 4

Info

After breakfast, you’ll transfer to a nearby beach to enjoy a half day of kayaking! Explore the coast, its impressive cliffs, tunnels and rock formations. Then head back to land with the rest of the day at your leisure. Today you’ll want to wear your bathing suit and bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Ocean Kayaking

5 Hours

Take a 30 minute transfer and hop into kayaks and paddle along Costa Ballena. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and unique natural rock formations of Ventanas. Ventanas is surrounded by tunnels in the cliffs that look like impressive windows in the surrounding landscape - hence the beach’s name. You will stop at Playa Ventanas (Windows Beach) for some fruit snacks. You’ll have the opportunity to swim or possibly try some kayak surfing! Then you will paddle back to shore and hop on a return transfer back to the hotel. You will be provided with life jackets and a paddle for this activity.

Info

Fill up on breakfast then ride the waves! You’ll transfer to a nearby beach for a beginner surf lesson. Enjoy the warm water and waves of the Pacific Coast before returning back to the hotel with the rest of the day to relax or explore on your own. You’ll want to wear your bathing suit and bring a towel and a water bottle.

Surf Lesson

2 Hours

First time surfer? No worries! Take a 30 minute transfer to a nearby beach and start with a public beginner lesson, in which you are guaranteed to stand and ride a wave. The lessons are 2 hours long and consist of about 15 minutes spent on the beach, where your instructor will go over the basic fundamentals necessary to get up properly on your surfboard and ride a wave, as well as the safe ways to do it; the rest of the time is spent in the ocean catching waves with your surf coach. After your lesson, you’ll take a return transfer back to the hotel. You will be provided with only a surfboard. There will be a place to change clothes at the surfing office center. *Depending on the tide your surf lesson may be scheduled in the morning or afternoon.

Enjoy your last breakfast in Dominical then hop on a return transfer back to San Jose. You’ll make a stop on the road for lunch before continuing onward to San Jose. Expect to arrive in the afternoon. Then enjoy your final meal with your group and toast to a great week! As the roads are mountainous, you may want to have car sickness medication readily available.

Every trip has a physical Activity Level from 1 to 5 so you can find the right fit for your travel style:

  • Level 2 – Low-Key Movement: Light, easy-paced activity (snorkeling, boat tours, gentle hikes)
  • Level 3 – Moderate Activity: Ready to move (multi-day hikes, skiing, camping)
  • Level 4 – Get Your Heart Rate Up: More intense movement (long hikes, biking, active days)

What does "or similar" mean next to the accommodations?

When we say “or similar,” it means the hotel listed is an example of what you can expect—not always the exact spot you'll be staying. Sometimes Operators adjust accommodations due to seasonal availability or group size. But rest assured: the quality and comfort will match what's shown.

Why would the accommodations change from time of booking?

Flexibility allows Operators to choose the best-fit accommodations closer to your trip—based on availability, logistics, and what works best for the group (like the number of Travelers and room configurations). This ensures a smooth experience without sacrificing comfort or quality.

Finalized hotel info is typically shared about 30 days before departure in your Traveler Portal, along with your final itinerary.

Who actually runs my trip, and how does Trova keep things safe?

Your trip is operated by licensed, certified Tour Operators who manage all trip logistics and safety—from accommodations and local Guides and day-to-day logistics. All trips comply with local legal and regulatory standards. We vet each Operating partner carefully so you can travel with confidence.

General Travel Questions

Do I need any documentation to travel?

It depends on where you're headed. Though it is not a universal requirement, many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. This ensures Travelers have sufficient time to return home even if their visas are extended or if unexpected circumstances arise. 

Some destinations may also require a visa. Check our visa page to consult your country's travel resources.

Do I need any vaccines?

It's always best to check with your healthcare provider or a travel doctor before your trip. You can also visit the CDC website (or your local government's travel health resource) for destination-specific vaccine guidance. Health and safety first!

Are flights included in the trip cost?

Because our Hosts and Travelers are coming from all around the world, flights to and from your destination are not included. Some trips include internal flights (like a short domestic hop), and those details will always be listed on the trip page if applicable.

Can you accommodate my dietary needs?

We’ll do our very best! Our Operators aim to accommodate dietary restrictions, though availability varies by destination. For example, some places offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, while others might be quite limited. The earlier you let us know—through your trip form or by contacting our support team—the better we can prepare. Once you arrive, be sure to remind your local Guide about any allergies or restrictions so they can help you enjoy your meals safely and comfortably.
