Join me, @thecurvyamanda, and our fellow curvy besties for a ONCE IN A LIFETIME adventure from La Fortuna to Jaco Beach in Costa Rica!! Together we will visit lush rainforests, majestic volcanoes, and pristine beaches. First stop, La Fortuna! Where we will explore the awe-inspiring Arenal Volcano and soak in natural hot springs, traverse through vibrant jungles and visit the breathtaking La Fortuna Waterfall! Next, we will visit Jaco Beach, to experience the local culture and lounge on the famous golden sands. This itinerary promises a perfect mix of adventure, natural beauty, and beach vibes, creating memories we are sure to never forget!

Welcome! Please be prepared to meet in the lobby at 5:30 pm to depart for your welcome dinner. The dinner reservation time will be finalized closer to your trip date. If you plan on arriving today, we recommend flying into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO).

Day 2

Info

Wake up rested and ready for your first full day in Costa Rica! After filling up on breakfast, you’ll head out of the city and into the rainforest toward La Fortuna. On the way you’ll stop at an organic farm tucked in the hills to learn about the local rural life of Costa Rica. There you’ll enjoy a traditional Costa Rica lunch before continuing to La Fortuna near the Arenal Volcano. In the evening after checking into your hotel, you will go to a natural hot springs resort where you will relax in pools of different temperatures and finish off with a nice meal before heading back to the hotel. Be sure to wear your bathing suit and slip on shoes for the hot springs.

Transfer to the Organic Farm

3 Hours

Take a private transfer from San Jose to the Organic Farm. Stops for bathrooms will be made along the way as needed with a final stop 30 minutes before arriving at the Organic Farm.

Organic Farm Visit

2 Hours

Experience Costa Rican rural life as the local Elizondo Herrera family takes you on a tour of their farm. You’ll take a short 30 minute walk as you tour the farm and learn about the different plants and fruits that are grown there such as the all important pineapple! Then you’ll learn how to make homemade tortillas before sitting down to enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by Herreras.

Lunch at the Organic Farm is included. Your meal will be a typical Costa Rican casado meal that will vary based on the available seasonal ingredients. One juice beverage is also included.

Transfer to the Arenal Volcano

1 Hour

Continue your private transfer to the Arenal Volcano.

Natural Hot Springs

3 Hours

This evening you will relax in natural thermal pools and jacuzzis of different temperatures with focused hydromassage for your back, legs, and feet. Relax in the different temperature pools ranging from 91º F (32 C) to 105º F (41 C). After your soak, you’ll get changed and enjoy an included dinner. Towels and lockers are provided.

Day 3

Info

This morning you’ll have the option to sleep in, have a relaxing breakfast and explore the La Fortuna area more on your own. You will have the opportunity to get lunch in town on your own before heading to the La Fortuna Waterfall in the afternoon. At the La Fortuna waterfall, walk down and enjoy the fantastic views and swim in the refreshing water. Be sure to wear your bathing suit to the La Fortuna waterfall and bring a towel, sunscreen, a hat, a water bottle, and comfortable walking shoes.

La Fortuna Waterfall Visit

2 Hours

In the afternoon you will take a short half hour private transfer to the entrance of the La Fortuna Waterfall. You will need to walk down to get to the La Fortuna Waterfall but don’t be intimidated by the waterfall’s 530-step descent! The rainforest views and wildlife are all worth it. If the weather allows, you’ll even be able to take a dip in the crystal clear waters. After you take in the impressive views and dry off, you’ll take your time walking back up the steps to the entrance. There is a bathroom at the main entrance to change out of your wet clothes if needed.

Day 4

Info

Say goodbye to the rainforest and head to the beach! Today you will take a half day transfer to Jaco, a town famed for its world-class surfing beaches and plentiful wildlife. Along the way you’ll make a stop for lunch on your own and you’ll arrive in Jaco in the mid-afternoon. After checking into your hotel you’ll have the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure. If you get car sick easily don't forget to bring your car sickness medication!

Transfer to Jacó Beach

4 Hours

At the afternoon, immerse yourself in Costa Rican culture by taking part in an authentic cooking class. Get ready to roll up your sleeves as you are guided through the traditional art of crafting mouthwatering tortillas or patacones. Today you will want to wear comfortable shoes and be eager to learn!

Authentic Cooking Class

3 Hours

Transfer 45 minutes to your cooking class. Here you'll be guided through traditional ingredients and prepare your own lunch! Feel the texture of the dough, enjoy the aroma of freshly cooked delicacies, and savor the unique flavors—all while learning a bit about the vibrant Costa Rican culture. Come hungry for knowledge and leave with the skills to recreate these tasty delights at home! You will prepare one main dish consisting of things like patacones, chifrijo and tortillas. What you prepare will vary based on seasonality of ingredients. Water is included. After your class and meal, you'll take a 45 minute transfer back to your hotel.

What's included in the trip cost?

Every trip has a physical Activity Level from 1 to 5 so you can find the right fit for your travel style:

  • Level 1 – Relax + Unwind: Minimal movement (spa days, beach lounging, local markets)
  • Level 2 – Low-Key Movement: Light, easy-paced activity (snorkeling, boat tours, gentle hikes)
  • Level 3 – Moderate Activity: Ready to move (multi-day hikes, skiing, camping)
  • Level 4 – Get Your Heart Rate Up: More intense movement (long hikes, biking, active days)

What does "or similar" mean next to the accommodations?

When we say “or similar,” it means the hotel listed is an example of what you can expect—not always the exact spot you'll be staying. Sometimes Operators adjust accommodations due to seasonal availability or group size. But rest assured: the quality and comfort will match what's shown.

Why would the accommodations change from time of booking?

Flexibility allows Operators to choose the best-fit accommodations closer to your trip—based on availability, logistics, and what works best for the group (like the number of Travelers and room configurations). This ensures a smooth experience without sacrificing comfort or quality.

Finalized hotel info is typically shared about 30 days before departure in your Traveler Portal, along with your final itinerary.

Trip Operations & Compliance

Who actually runs my trip, and how does Trova keep things safe?

Your trip is operated by licensed, certified Tour Operators who manage all trip logistics and safety—from accommodations and local Guides and day-to-day logistics. All trips comply with local legal and regulatory standards. We vet each Operating partner carefully so you can travel with confidence.

General Travel Questions

Do I need any documentation to travel?

It depends on where you're headed. Though it is not a universal requirement, many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. This ensures Travelers have sufficient time to return home even if their visas are extended or if unexpected circumstances arise. 

Some destinations may also require a visa. Check our visa page to consult your country's travel resources.

Do I need any vaccines?

It's always best to check with your healthcare provider or a travel doctor before your trip. You can also visit the CDC website (or your local government's travel health resource) for destination-specific vaccine guidance. Health and safety first!

Are flights included in the trip cost?

Because our Hosts and Travelers are coming from all around the world, flights to and from your destination are not included. Some trips include internal flights (like a short domestic hop), and those details will always be listed on the trip page if applicable.

Can you accommodate my dietary needs?

We’ll do our very best! Our Operators aim to accommodate dietary restrictions, though availability varies by destination. For example, some places offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, while others might be quite limited. The earlier you let us know—through your trip form or by contacting our support team—the better we can prepare. Once you arrive, be sure to remind your local Guide about any allergies or restrictions so they can help you enjoy your meals safely and comfortably.
