Info
From Windhoek Airport to Waterberg Plateau
The overland truck transfer will depart from Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) at 12:00 pm. Please book flights to arrive in the morning. If you cannot find a morning flight, please book a pre-night in Windhoek, and the overland truck will pick you up on the way to Waterberg. The transfer lasts around 4.5 hours, so you will arrive at the campsite in the afternoon, with time to set up your own tent before dinner. Please note that you will have a locker in the truck with limited space for your luggage. The locker size is 35cm sq, 80cm deep, so you should limit your luggage to one backpack and one day pack weighing no more than 50lb. Please bring a flexible duffel bag as luggage and avoid hard-frame suitcases (Samsonite style).
dinner
Dinners during the camp nights are also participatory activities, so you should help in the cooking, setting the table, and anything else that could be needed. Your guides will lead the cooking, preparing a delicious meal which usually focuses on a substantial protein, vegetables, and carbohydrates. Dinner is served in a traditional campfire cuisine consisting of braais (BBQ), potjie (stew), bobotie (mince), spaghetti, and fish and chicken dishes. All meals are prepared at the full-service adventure truck. The dinner includes 1 main dish. Please note that water is included, and any additional beverages should be purchased on your own.

Info
breakfast
Breakfast during the camp days is served very early in the morning. It is a simple but filling meal with tea and coffee, breads and spreads, cereals, yogurts, fruits, and on occasion, when there is time for a later breakfast, guides will serve a hot meal of scrambled eggs, porridge, bacon, or beans.
Morning Rhino Tracking on Foot
After an early breakfast and packing up all camping gear, you will board the overland truck. After a brief transfer, you will arrive at the foot of Waterberg Plateau, where your guide will select a track to start the hiking activity. Guided by expert trackers, you'll explore the nature reserve at the foot of the Waterberg, immersing yourself in the landscape and wildlife of this unique region. This adventure is a journey into the heart of the African bush, following ancient paths like the bushmen of old. Your tracker will lead you through the terrain, pointing out signs of wildlife such as oryx, red hartebeest, kudu, and giraffe. But the real highlight is the opportunity to encounter white rhinos at eye level. The duration of the activity depends on various factors, but expect approximately 3 to 4 hours of hiking. The terrain includes some slopes, so a moderate level of fitness is required. However, the experience is incredibly rewarding as you witness the natural behavior of these magnificent animals in their habitat. Waterberg Plateau National Park is not only a haven for wildlife but also a geological wonderland. The park features compressed sandstone crags, 200-million-year-old dinosaur footprints, and petrified sand dunes, adding to the allure of your adventure. It's important to note that this activity is entirely dependent on the movement of wild animals and cannot be predicted. Your trackers will take you to one of the last known locations of rhino sightings and then it's up to nature. You'll walk in their footsteps, experiencing the thrill of a true African safari.
From Waterberg to Etosha East
Once your Rhino tracking adventure ends, you will board the overland truck again to begin your journey to the eastern area of Etosha National Park. The transfer lasts about 4 to 5 hours, with a planned stop at Tsumeb town for a restroom break. Your lunch will be included during the transfer. Plan to arrive at your campsite in the afternoon, with time to set up your tent before dinner.
lunch
Lunch is generally served at a picnic spot next to the road en route to Etosha. As the guides have approximately 45 minutes to get everyone off the truck, prepare lunch, and then get everyone back on the truck, lunches consist of sandwiches and salads (such as rice salad, pasta salad, tuna salad, and green salad), which are quick and easy to prepare but quite filling.

Etosha National Park Safari
Embark on an unforgettable safari adventure in Etosha National Park, starting early in the morning from your campsite. After a hearty breakfast and packing up all camping gear into the overland truck, you'll hop into the vehicle to begin your journey. Arriving at Friedrich von Lindequist gate at sunrise, you'll start your game drive with the first rays of the sun illuminating the landscape. The safari is conducted from the overland truck, with scheduled stops where you can stretch your legs and take in the breathtaking surroundings. It's a full-day activity, and a stop for lunch is planned at midday, allowing you to enjoy a picnic surrounded by pure nature. Proclaimed as a game reserve in 1907 by Friedrich von Lindequist, the Governor of German South West Africa, Etosha National Park is renowned as the greatest wildlife sanctuary in Namibia. With only the buffalo absent from the Big 5, the rest are here, so keep your eyes peeled for white lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and more. As the day draws to a close, you'll arrive at your West Etosha campsite at sunset, with some free time to set up your tent before dinner.

Dune 45 Sunrise Hike
Awake before dawn, lace up your hiking shoes, and embark on a 45-minute transfer to the foot of the imposing Dune 45. Upon arrival, begin your journey into the tranquil desert darkness, guided only by the soft glow of the stars and the anticipation of witnessing nature's grand spectacle. With each step, feel the soft sand beneath your feet as you ascend the towering dune. As the horizon begins to blush with the first hints of light, reach the crest of Dune 45 just in time to witness the ethereal beauty of the sunrise. The sky transforms into a canvas of vivid hues, painting the surrounding desert landscape in shades of gold and crimson. With each passing moment, watch in awe as the sun emerges from the horizon, casting its warm rays across the vast expanse of the Namib Desert. The hike is a steep climb on thick sand, lasting about 30 minutes to reach the top. The total elevation gain is 525 feet. After the sunrise spectacle, descend the dune and savor a packed breakfast at the bottom. Once breakfast is finished, walk back to the parking area and board the overland truck for a 30-minute transfer to Deadvlei, where your morning adventure continues.

Deadvlei and Sossusvlei Visit
Your exploration of Namib-Naukluft National Park continues with a visit to Deadvlei, a surreal clay pan surrounded by towering red sand dunes, creating a scene that is both haunting and captivating. After descending from the overland truck, you'll have approximately 40 minutes to explore on foot and capture as many photos as possible. As you traverse the terrain, you'll be struck by the stark contrast between the stark white clay pan and the deep red dunes that encircle it. The name "Deadvlei," which translates to "dead marsh," hints at the eerie beauty of this ancient landscape, where the skeletal remains of centuries-old camel thorn trees stand as silent sentinels against the backdrop of shifting sands. Wandering among the ancient trees, you'll marvel at their twisted forms and contemplate the conditions that led to their preservation. After immersing yourself in the otherworldly beauty of Deadvlei, you'll embark on a 10-minute transfer to Sossusvlei. Sossusvlei offers another breathtaking clay pan surrounded by towering red sand dunes. This part of the park is characterized by the presence of living camel thorn trees, scattered throughout the clay pan and surrounding dunes. The terrain of Sossusvlei is relatively flat and consists of soft, powdery sand, making it easier to explore on foot. You'll have approximately 40 minutes to explore Sossusvlei before returning to your campsite for lunch.

After your morning exploration, you will return to the campsite for lunch. Today's meal will consist of sandwiches and salads, including rice salad, pasta salad, tuna salad, and green salad. These options are quick and easy to prepare but quite filling.

Guided by your knowledgeable leader, you'll embark on an easy walk through the canyon, searching for the perfect vantage point to witness the sunset. As you traverse Sesriem Canyon, you'll be greeted by rugged cliffs and deep gorges that bear witness to the forces of nature. Stretching for approximately 0.6 miles and plunging to depths of up to 98 feet, the canyon is a captivating testament to erosion's power. Descending into the canyon, you'll find yourself surrounded by towering rock walls, each sculpted by millennia of water flow. Along the canyon floor, following the ancient path of the Tsauchab River, you'll marvel at the intricate layers of sedimentary rock exposed in the walls, a chronicle of time's passage. A visit to Sesriem Canyon offers an exceptional opportunity to witness the dance of light and shadow as the sun traverses the sky. At sunset, the canyon is bathed in golden hues, transforming it into a photographer's dreamland where every angle promises a stunning capture of nature's beauty. After your exploration of Sesriem Canyon, you'll return to the campsite for a delicious dinner.

FAQ
Traveling with TrovaTrip
What's it like to travel on a Trova Trip?
Trova Trips are curated group travel experiences designed to help you see the world, meet new people, and connect over shared interests. Each trip is hosted by a community leader you know and trust, and run by professional local Operators who handle the logistics. Expect meaningful experiences, authentic activities, and a like-minded group to share it all with.
How does a Trova Trip actually work? Who's involved?
Great question! Each plays a key role in bringing your trip to life:
- The Host is your community leader—the person who brings the group together, sets the vibe, and curates the overall experience. They may lead a workshop or activity during the trip, but their main focus is connection and community, not logistics.
- The Operator is the certified, independent company that runs the trip on the ground. They handle the logistics like accommodations, transportation, Guides, activities, and safety. Every Operator we partner with is licensed, insured, and vetted to ensure a high-quality travel experience.
- TrovaTrip is the platform that powers it all. We connect Hosts with trusted Operators, provide the tools to design and manage trips, and support Travelers before and during their journey to ensure everything runs smoothly.
In short: The Host shapes the experience and brings the vibe, the Operator runs the trip, and we make it all happen. Read more about who does what here.
What's the difference between the Host, the Operator, and Trova?
Great question! Each plays a key role in bringing your experience to life:
- The Host is your community leader who brings the group together, fosters connection, and perhaps leads a workshop or two. They're there to bring the vibes, not the logistics. That's the Tour Operator's job.
- The Operator is the professional travel company that runs the trip on the ground. They handle it all—accommodations, local Guides, activities, and safety. Every Operator we partner with is licensed, insured, and vetted to deliver high-quality group travel.
- TrovaTrip is the platform who connects it all. We help design the trips, partner with Hosts with Operators, and support you before and during your journey to ensure everything runs smoothly.
In short: The Host brings the vibe, the Operator runs the trip, and we make it all happen. Read more about who does what here.
I'm nervous to book. How can I feel more confident?
First, let us say—it's totally understandable, and you're not alone! Travel can feel intimidating, but we built Trova to take the guesswork out of group travel and earn your trust every step of the way:
- Every trip is run by licensed Tour Operators with vetted local Guides.
- Hosts are there to foster connection, meaning you'll arrive solo but never feel alone.
- Itineraries are clearly outlined so you know what to expect, including activity level, example accommodations, and what's included.
- Our team is available to support you pre-departure, and Operators—plus your local Guide—are on the ground to assist during the trip. And rest assured, all our Operating partners are trained in crisis management.
- We always recommend travel insurance for extra peace of mind, whether you're traveling with Trova or solo. It can cover medical issues, lost luggage, or even cancellations.
We know it takes trust to book a trip with new people, and we're here to make sure you feel ready, supported, and excited!”
Can I book solo?
Absolutely! As of 2025, almost 84% of TrovaTrip Travelers go solo. (And yes, we may be a little biased, but we think group travel is one of the best ways to meet new people!) You'll have your own bed and the option to book a private room on most trips. Plus you'll be traveling with others who are just as excited to explore and connect.
What if I need to cancel?
We understand that life happens. Our cancellation policy is designed to provide flexibility while balancing the logistics of group travel:
- Spot pending – 100% refundable. Not confirmed yet? No worries. You can cancel at any time for a full refund.
- Spot confirmed with 91 or more days before your trip – Partially refundable + credit towards a future trip. You'll receive a future trip credit for the amount of your down payment (minus a $100 cancellation fee per Traveler). This trip credit is valid for one year from the date it is issued. Additionally, any payments made beyond the original 25% down payment will be refunded to your original form of payment.
- Spot confirmed with 90 days or fewer before your trip – Non-refundable. At this point, all payments are non-refundable because your experience is already in motion behind the scenes. By this time, our operating partners will be working with local businesses to secure your accommodations and finalize your activities.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Protect Your Adventure–Invest in Peace of Mind
We strongly encourage purchasing travel insurance with trip cancellation coverage to safeguard your investment. With travel insurance, you're covered in case of unexpected events–from illness to emergencies–that could affect your plans. Life is unpredictable, but your dream trip doesn't have to be.
After booking, you'll receive a personalized recommendation for coverage tailored to your trip. For full details on our cancellation policy, please refer to our Terms & Conditions.
What's included in the trip cost?
Most trips include accommodations, daily activities, ground transportation, some meals, and a dedicated local Guide. Because Travelers are coming from all around the world, flights to and from your destination are not included. Each trip page breaks it all down for you.
Does my Host make money from hosting?
TL;DR: Sometimes! Many Hosts earn income from leading trips, but not always.
Every trip on Trova is uniquely shaped by the Host. They choose the destination, curate the itinerary, and rally their community to come along for the adventure. It’s a big effort (and a rewarding one, or so we hear!).
A Host’s earnings depend on the trip price they set and how many Travelers join. Trova provides the tools, support, and platform—but ultimately, income isn’t guaranteed.
Will I have free time?
Yes! While we pack in incredible experiences, most itineraries include built-in free time so you can relax, wander, or check out personal must-sees.
What do the activity levels mean?
Every trip has a physical Activity Level from 1 to 5 so you can find the right fit for your travel style:
- Level 1 – Relax + Unwind: Minimal movement (spa days, beach lounging, local markets)
- Level 2 – Low-Key Movement: Light, easy-paced activity (snorkeling, boat tours, gentle hikes)
- Level 3 – Moderate Activity: Ready to move (multi-day hikes, skiing, camping)
- Level 4 – Get Your Heart Rate Up: More intense movement (long hikes, biking, active days)
- Level 5 – Extreme Adventure: High-adrenaline travel (challenging hikes, dives, technical climbs – experience may be required)
You'll find the Activity Level clearly listed on each trip page, and a more in-depth explanation of each level here.
Who can I contact with more questions?
Our support team is here to help! Visit trovatrip.com/company/contact-us to reach out. You can expect to hear back within 2 business days, but probably sooner—our Trova elves are pretty speedy!
Accommodations
What does "or similar" mean next to the accommodations?
When we say “or similar,” it means the hotel listed is an example of what you can expect—not always the exact spot you'll be staying. Sometimes Operators adjust accommodations due to seasonal availability or group size. But rest assured: the quality and comfort will match what's shown.
Why would the accommodations change from time of booking?
Flexibility allows Operators to choose the best-fit accommodations closer to your trip—based on availability, logistics, and what works best for the group (like the number of Travelers and room configurations). This ensures a smooth experience without sacrificing comfort or quality.
Finalized hotel info is typically shared about 30 days before departure in your Traveler Portal, along with your final itinerary.

Your trip is operated by licensed, certified Tour Operators who manage all trip logistics and safety—from accommodations and local Guides and day-to-day logistics. All trips comply with local legal and regulatory standards. We vet each Operating partner carefully so you can travel with confidence.

General Travel Questions
Do I need any documentation to travel?
It depends on where you're headed. Though it is not a universal requirement, many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. This ensures Travelers have sufficient time to return home even if their visas are extended or if unexpected circumstances arise.
Some destinations may also require a visa. Check our visa page to consult your country's travel resources.
Do I need any vaccines?
It's always best to check with your healthcare provider or a travel doctor before your trip. You can also visit the CDC website (or your local government's travel health resource) for destination-specific vaccine guidance. Health and safety first!
Are flights included in the trip cost?
Because our Hosts and Travelers are coming from all around the world, flights to and from your destination are not included. Some trips include internal flights (like a short domestic hop), and those details will always be listed on the trip page if applicable.
Can you accommodate my dietary needs?
We’ll do our very best! Our Operators aim to accommodate dietary restrictions, though availability varies by destination. For example, some places offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, while others might be quite limited. The earlier you let us know—through your trip form or by contacting our support team—the better we can prepare. Once you arrive, be sure to remind your local Guide about any allergies or restrictions so they can help you enjoy your meals safely and comfortably.
