  • Havana is the biggest city of Cuba, the other cities are much smaller and have less than half a million inhabitants including Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey.
  • There are now just two countries in the world where Coca-Cola cannot be bought or sold – at least not officially. They are Cuba and North Korea, which are both under long-term US trade embargoes (Cuba since 1962 and North Korea since 1950).
  • When viewed from the air, the island of Cuba resembles a crocodile. Hence, it is also referred to in Spanish as “El Crocodilo” or “El Caima.”
  • Cuban cigars are known as the finest cigars in the world. They are handcrafted with homegrown tobacco. Sugar made from sugar cane is their major crop.
  • It is a tradition in Cuba to burn dolls on New Year’s Eve to symbolize the forgetting of bad times and look forward to a fresh start with the New Year.

FAQ

Where can I find information on travel safety?  Common sense safety rules apply here: Don't wear flashy jewelry, keep your phones and cameras out of sight, only carry enough money for the day, and avoid taking cards or passports out with you. Wear what you would normally wear, but try to wear clothing with hidden pockets to stash your important items.

Is the water safe to drink? As a general rule, you should avoid tap water in Cuba and stick to drinking bottled water.

 

Do I need a Visa? Our operating partner, Discova will take care of all visa documents for Travelers to ensure they have all the necessary visa items prior to leaving the country. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after you return home and has two or more blank pages. Otherwise, some countries may not let you enter.

What does public transportation look like? You can find taxis everywhere and they are cheap. The most common way to get around is by bus.

 

Is Uber or Lyft available? No, neither are have made it to Cuba just yet.

 

What about Wifi? Wifi should be readily available in most areas. For Travelers participating in the Lost City Trek, you will not have access to Wifi at all.
